Senior Unity Developer to be based in Gothenburg, Sweden

The User Experience Centre, within Product and Quality, bring consumer emotions, behaviours and needs into Volvo Cars product creation.

We are responsible for strategies and directions of UX, creating rapid prototypes for proof of concepts and conduct user research.

We are organized in three groups with employees both in Gothenburg and in Copenhagen.

What you’ll do

You will be working on defining the visualization and development platform of the future and allow this to work seamlessly within departments in Product & Quality and Design. In your role you will bridge the capabilities of our model pipeline using the Unity engine. This role will include hands on Unity/Software development and coding.

You will also

• Contribute to our Simulation, AR/VR software development strategy.
• Find the right order and balance between solving hard issues and creating new features while we improve quality.
• Work not only with all our internal stakeholders but also our technology partners across the industry to create the software stack and solve fundamental Simulation, AR/VR and visualization challenges.
• Communicate with other team members to establish effective pipeline and integrate media assets.
• Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code.
• Produce Unity experiences on different platforms.

Who you are

The person for this role will contribute their expertise working with the Unity engine itself and passion for crafting the fundamentals for modular and scalable graphic intensive experiences.
• 5+ years of experience in Unity 3D development
• Excellent knowledge of Unity, including experience with scripting, textures, animation, GUI styles, and user session management
• Up to date with latest Unity’s tools and current practices.
• Degree in a relevant area (Computer Science, Mathematics) or equivalent expertise preferred
• Very strong programming skills implementing immersive simulation, AR/VR applications
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming
• Experience with game physics and particle systems, with mobile and console game development
• Ability to constantly learn and stay in touch with evolving game standards and development technologies
• Follow adopted design/development methodologies, patterns, and toolsets
• Experience of working with iterative development. This can mean lean, Scrum, Kanban or any other flavor. The key, is that you believe in iterative development.
• Proficient knowledge of code versioning tools {{such as Git, SVN, and Mercurial}}
• Ability to prototype before using design tools or code, methodical, problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
• Experience in working with a cross-functional teams or large-scale software development lifecycle, including agile methodologies is an added bonus
• Relative experience and interest in leading parts of software development
• Driver’s license
Meritorious:
• Prior experience with a well-known mobile title or AAA titles
• Experience with 3D modelling
• Strong knowledge in 3D Math, graphics, physics, animations
• A solid understanding of core Unity concepts including component creation, animators, shaders, and performance profiling
• Experience implementing automated testing platforms and unit test
• Familiarity with level design and planning is a plus
