The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a DevOps Engineer at the Integrated Control Systems (ICS) Division.

Job description and responsibilities:

• Create and maintain the software and development environment strategies for the ESS control and related technical system
• Support development efforts with in-kind partners, whilst ensuring that the methodologies used adhere to ESS's
• Utilize various open source technologies to replace manual steps with automation, specific to the controls software quality assurance and development pipeline
• Use various tools to orchestrate solutions on the unit and regression testing, staging and production environments
• Build independent web based tools, microservices and solutions
• Write scripts and automation by primarily using Python and its associated libraries
• Configure and manage data sources like MySQL, Mongo, Elasticsearch, Redis, InfluxDB, Kubernetes, etc.
• Use experience and knowledge to propose and implement changes to existing application development and application deployment workflows
• Improve and streamline the continuous integration and deployment of Controls software
• Manage source control including GIT/Gitlab and Gitlab-CI/Jenkins build pipelines

Required qualifications:

• Phd, or Master’s degree in Computer Science of equivalent postgraduate-level technical course
• Preferably 10 years of experience in managing Linux based systems and deployment of mission critical software
• Preferably 5 years of hands-on experience with databases, both RDBMS and noSQL, such as MySQL, Postgres, Mongo, Redis, etc.
• Preferably 10 years of experience with scripting or programming language. Example Python, JavaScript, etc. 
• Knowledge of Java/JVM concepts and experience in the deployment and packaging of Java applications
• Good time-management skills
• Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and how this can impact on ESS’s success
• Mentoring experience, where you can demonstrate building DevOps mindset and skillset to colleagues without previous experience
• Critical thinking and strong problem-solving experience

Duration & Location?

The position is limited to 3 years with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
