Backend Developer to Mullvad VPN // Gothenburg

We believe that privacy is fundamental to a well-functioning society where norms, ethics, and laws can safely be discussed and challenged. That same society cannot flourish and develop - nor can it exist - without privacy. This is why we provide a VPN service: because privacy is paramount, and apparently not only to us. The Mullvad VPN (https://mullvad.net/en/) community is growing, and as a coincident, so are we. This is why we, together with Oddwork, are on the hunt for an experienced Backend Developer. Perhaps you are a Qubes Evangelist with one big life goal: to make internet censorship and mass surveillance ineffective. Good, because that is why we get up in the morning.

About the position as Backend Developer
Hello future colleague, and welcome to our Backend Team. Welcome to a team that lives for user security. A team and company that never ever saves any user logs. So, we don´t know (and we have no ambition knowing) who’s using our VPN, but the currency they pay* in does not seldom reveal that they live in countries with a lot of internet censorship. They use our services, and might be so while being under threat. That is why we always want to improve and develop our services further and our stack is mainly written in Python. From where do we liberate the world? In new, fresh, crispy (call it what you want!) facilities in the absolute center of Gothenburg.

We are looking for you...
who’s driven by the cause and with that you have a huge passion for transparency. You know that trust is a fragile thing: difficult to build, easy to lose. And now you want to blaze the trail with us and develop the most secure VPN service. It´s not a statement, it’s an ambition.

Do you wear a black belt in Docker and Kubernetes? If that’s so, and if you do carry a vast interest in building systems with a heavy focus on security and privacy - then you´re already a Mullvad, ready to come home.

Our four wishes:

- You have a few years’ experience developing and designing the architecture for backend services

- English

- You are comfortable using the right tools for the job and have an open mind when it comes to learning new features

- You have run services on Linux-based systems and either asleep or awake you know your ways around a terminal
