Are you an Informatician looking for an exciting new challenge? Do you have a real passion for development of graph-based data and information modelling? Would you like to join our Quantitative Biology team in Gothenburg and develop and apply computational solutions to support our drive to find medicines of the future?

We are further investing globally in capabilities in knowledge graphs and network-based biology, and you will join a multi-disciplinary team of data scientists and researchers driving us forward in this area. Our main the purpose is to provide data-driven insights into biology for discovery of new therapies. Your role will be to work with diverse researchers to deliver graph modelling and processing of a range of data and information types, suitable for incorporation into graph-based systems, and harmonising with other datasets.

Our stunning campus in Gothenburg is one of AstraZeneca's three strategic science centres. The site is home to over 2,500 employees, from 50 different nationalities. Gothenburg includes the complete range of functions, and as such offers plenty of development opportunities for a wide range of professionals. Our science teams in Gothenburg collaborate with academic and industry partners in Sweden and globally. And the site itself has been designed with collaboration in mind. From the Coffee Lab to exercise areas, we've created a series of environments where innovation can happen.

We are assembling a new team committed to building and analysing disease knowledge graphs to impact drug discovery and development for oncology, respiratory and metabolic disorders. The team will include data scientists, bioinformaticians, data wranglers, data engineers and graph engineers. The team will assemble and interrogate knowledge graphs linking drugs, targets and disease processes to reveal biological insight impacting research and clinical practices including

* Discovery of novel drug targets.
* Pattern identification defining distinct patient groups and biomarkers.
* Understanding drug mechanism of action and safety.
* Building predictive models for precision medicine.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As an informatician in the team, you will apply innovative approaches and develop software and automated pipelines to wrangle, connect, QC, assemble and annotate research data. You will collaborate with domain experts to iterate, standardize and agree processes enabling efficient assembly and interrogation of knowledge graphs. Data will include literature derived knowledge, public databases, and proprietary clinical and pre-clinical multi-layered data (including screening, NGS, multi-omics, imaging, CRISPR, clinical and EHR) in structured and unstructured forms.

Your main responsibilities will involve:

* Developing software and analytical pipelines for wrangling, processing and modelling a variety of data and information types to enable graph-based modelling and capture
* Collaborating effectively with experimentalists, bioinformaticians, statisticians and other data scientists to explore, iterate, standardise and agree processes for modelling research data and information in graph format. You will be working as part of a global multi-disciplinary team.
* Contribute to, and where necessary prototype and build, local and global data management processes and solutions for graph-based data and information.
* Ensuring scientific excellence in software, processes and results as well as being efficient and well documented

Minimum Requirements

* PhD, or equivalent experience, in bioinformatics, mathematics, computer science, statistics, engineering or the life sciences
* Demonstrable experience in the core competency areas: Labelled property graph database technologies and query languages. RDF, SPARQL and triple/quad stores. Use of ontologies and dictionaries. Modelling data and information in graph format. Strong data wrangling and processing skills.
* Experience with relevant computational tools such as Python, Shell, Javascript, HTML, C/C++, SQL/NoSQL databasing, networked and cloud-based systems, software versioning tools (e.g. Git/Github), concept maps.
* Experience in biological research concepts, and data and information types (e.g. biological relationships, NextGen sequencing, genetics data) would be an advantage
