Miles Davis once said “Sometimes it takes a long time to learn how to play like yourself”. Even though we are not much for using quotes, we think this pretty much sums up our view on our team members. We want to create a work environment that lets our team members truly play like themselves, no matter what their instrument of choice is. Just think of the magic created when Miles Davis learned to play like himself. Now we want to bring that magic to Software Development. So if you believe that you are the future Coltrane of software development, don´t sleep on this one.

The Skymill-band consists of a group of teamworking “first violins”, meaning that each member is a true expert at playing their instrument, but at the same time realizing that one person doesn't make a band (unless you´re Bob Log III of course). We give each other the space, time and credit needed to create beautiful compositions. We are a consultant based, up and coming company, fully focused on giving both our customers and our people an all out experience. For our customers this means that we take an overall responsibility for both development projects and daily operations. We have extensive experience from working in the IT-sector and have helped a great variety of customers with project management, software development and cloud integrations. For our people it means that we put you in the center and let the company evolve with you, rather than trying to make you fit in a hole.

What you´ll be doing

Playing for Skymill as a Software Developer basically means that you have to be able to read up on and fully understand the technical requirements presented to you by our customers. You also need to have the ability to turn these requirements into beautiful implementations, mainly using Java and Javascript (nodejs). Your audience will be our customers, so you have to be capable of delivering high performance code to them when they need it the most, and also have the ability to walk them through and support them during the entire development life cycle. Most of all you have to let the passion you have for quality software shine through in your everyday work. Even though that solo of yours is magnificent, your aim and your drive is to let the band finish the gig and receive the standing ovations that the team deserves.

Desired skills

Even if you haven't yet learned how to play like yourself (greatness will come once you join us), some basic skills in handling your instrument is needed.

We think that you have some past experience from working in the field with one or more of the following things:

Java
Javascript (Node.js)
Agile Methodologies
Consultancy and general presence at customer site.

Not necessary, but if you also know or have experience with some of the following, it would be great:

Python
Scala
Machine Learning
Big-Data (apache spark/hadoop)

Our offer to you

Apart from working with one of the fastest growing, most flexible companies in the region, you will get a competitive salary and pension package, as well as 30 days paid vacation from the get go. You will be working alongside lots of smart and talented developers, cloud architects and project managers with extensive experience from the industry, each being a master of their own instrument. We offer a mentor program were you regularly meet a more senior player, showing you the ropes and focusing on your own development.

Outside the office we have recurring “jam-sessions” where having fun is the main objective. We arrange AWs and other nice events to make sure that “playful professionalism” still is our trademark. We often just hang out at the office for a beer or two after work, keeping the fridge full at all times. So if you wanna give it a shot (who doesn't want to be John Coltrane of Development?) send us your application!

Ps. If you are wondering about all the jazz references, please ask us at the interview.
