Job description

We are building tomorrow’s preschool platform. Our goal is to take away all admin work from teachers and staff so they can spend more time teaching our next generation. Prion is used by 150+ preschools. We are a small but ambitious team of individuals and we are still at an early stage of our journey.

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Prion, you will build, design & improve our stable infrastructure for the next thousands of preschools to come. Your contributions will have a great impact for the future of Prion and you will be able to set your mark on how our systems work and how our services are shaped. Together we will scale and become a global leader in digital solutions for preschools.

What have we done so far?

• Product-market fit with thousands of users in our apps, with very positive feedback, high retention, and engagement
• Recurring revenue from paying customers within both the private and public sector
• Some of Sweden’s most successful entrepreneurs as investors
• Created an iOS and Android app for preschool teachers and parents, an iOS app for children and a web service for principals
• Been part of the prominent incubators Stockholm Innovation and Growth (Sting) and SSE Business Lab (Stockholm School of Economics)

What are our goals for the next 6 months?

In the coming months, we will improve our backend architecture, as we do continuously, and continue our transformation going from a much-loved documentation/parent communication app to a platform that will make the daily lives of the preschool teachers even better.

Our backend is built with Node.js, Parse Server and we are using MongoDB. We are always open to new technologies, as long as we can deliver in time and give our users the stability they deserve. We are also planning to use PostgreSQL more and more. Climb aboard and join our technical discussions. ;)

What is your role?

• Be our chief architect, setting the structure for our platform short and long-term.
• Design and build backend applications and systems.
• Always improving the experience for our users, customers, and employees.
• Continuously strive to increase stability, scalability, and efficiency in our platform.
• Acting as a role model for yourself and the rest of the team.
• Help making technical choices.
• Take responsibility for supporting the team in delivering new features and innovations in a timely manner.
• Perform data processing to understand user behaviour and help define new features.

What’s it like working here?

We have daily short syncs over Slack or at the office where we decide priorities and keep each other up to date. Then we work on new features that bring our users the most value. At the end of the week, we release updates to our apps. We do continuous backend releases and make sure that the improvements play well in our staging environment. We make sure that we celebrate our wins and that we also have fun while we work.

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

You:

• database design thinking comes naturally to you
• are a curious and quick learner
• have previous experience designing backend applications
• are a problem solver at heart with the ability to deal with technical challenges
• are a good communicator (written and verbal)

• are empathetic for both colleagues and customers
• have experience with SQL

• B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Computer Science or related STEM
