The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Software Engineer.

Description of directorate/division
The Integrated Control System (ICS) division is responsible for the design, construction, commissioning and operation of control systems for the ESS facility including Accelerator, Target, Neutron Scattering Instruments and Conventional Facilities. The Controls Software Group within the ICS division has the responsibility to deliver relevant software components and solutions for many aspects of the ESS control system. 

Job description and responsibilities

As a Software Developer you are expected to design, develop, test, document and maintain software within the Integrated Control System. ICS software includes both open source and in-house developed applications that need to be tailored to work together. We expect you to be an active member of the development team, working with and taking own initiatives concerning continuous improvements of work methodologies and environment. We believe that you are a curious and technically-minded well-organized person able to cope with a heavy workload, and we expect you to be proactive, take initiatives and co-operate.

Required qualifications

* A Masters’ degree or equivalent experience in relevant field

* Seven to ten years' experience in Software development

* Solid experience with Java/Java EE

* Solid experience with C/C++

* Working experience with Python programming

* Experience in control systems software, such as EPICS

* Team player with excellent communication skills

* Working experience with setting up and understanding Git and associated tools

* Experience from participating and contributing in a work environment using agile ways of working

* Experience working with continuous integration infrastructures, preferably Gitlab-CI

Experience of working in an international environment is preferred and excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite. Having a pragmatic and flexible approach would be necessary to enjoy the work.

Duration & Location

This is a three-year temporary position. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
