Data Engineer, Media Insights

Data and insight is fundamental to realize Schibsted’s Media strategy. As the central media insights team, our vision is to enable high quality and compliant data access in order to facilitate data driven product development and facilitate data informed decisions at all levels.

As the News Media division is converging on common infrastructure, the data sources and data warehouse solutions for separate publishers will be replaced by a common data layer and analytical tools i.e. the analytical platform. As a Data Engineer, you will be a part of the team that designs and implements what is needed to cover the analytical needs for Schibsted News Media.

The new analytical platform supports all teams from both central functions and local brands, such as Aftonbladet, SvD, VG, Aftenposten and more. In your role, you will be working in close collaboration with colleagues embedded in product and tech teams as well as members of the local insights teams.

What you will do:

- Work together with highly skilled analysts, data scientists and engineers across the entire media division
- Manage real-time data pipelines and help building analytical apps on top of them using the best technologies for the job
- Design data models and architecture for analytical performance, flexibility and scalability
- Load, transform, integrate and aggregate data in accordance to commonly defined business needs
- Evaluate existing solutions, make technology choices for how to deliver and store data in collaboration with relevant teams
- Make data available in different formats (realtime, batch) to best deliver on insights requirements
- Design and set up reports in suitable tools for reporting and data exploration (Tableau, Amplitude etc.)

Who you are:

- Either Bachelors or Masters degree (Computer Science / Information Technology / Engineering) or equivalent experience
- Experience with batch and streaming data processing tools such as:
- Kafka, Kafka Streams, Airflow, Spark, Kinesis, Luigi

- Experience with database design and optimization such as:
- Snowflake, S3, Redshift

- Experience with cloud computing environments
- Understanding of software development best practices. Fluent in at least one development language (Scala, Python, Java, Kotlin), and interested in learning more
- Experience in building resilient systems that scale
- Passion for data and continuous drive to improve analytical tools to solve real business problems using data.
- Familiar with agile product development methodologies
- Fluent written and spoken English is mandatory
