Software Developer with Ruby

TSSG stands for "Telecommunications Software & Systems Group". The TSSG was formed as part of the Waterford Institute of Technology in 1996 by Dr. Willie Donnelly and Eamon deLeaster, with Barry Downes joining the promoters to create the Innovation and Commercialisation division in 2006. TSSG is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for ICT research and innovation. We carry out a wide spectrum of industry-informed research in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), particularly technologies enabling communications and information services.
Our four key prioritised technical Research areas include Mobile Platforms and Services, Security Privacy and Identity, Data Analytics and Social computing, Adaptive Networks and services. We create economic impact by translating our knowledge base and innovation into leading edge products and services by continuing our engagement with Industry in collaborative R&D, knowledge generation and transfer.

Full Job Description
-Work with the Project Manager and customers to develop requirements for software.
-Work with multiple projects and ensure delivery deadlines are met.
-Develop software using the appropriate technologies according to agile development best practices (e.g. test driven development, continuous integration, code reviews etc.).
-Develop software modules in Ruby on Rails or similar language / framework with a main focus on backend server.
-Work with database technologies - for example MySQL, Redis.
-Utilise process management tools such as Redmine, JIRA, gerrit.
-Work with the software test function to resolve defects promptly.
-Work with customers and travel to their sites (both National and International) as needed to support the product in production, identify enhancements and/or elicit requirements.
-Document any necessary processes or procedures.
-Flexibility to work with customers in different time zones such as US West Coast and Japan.

Education/language/experience requirements
BSc in Computing or similar discipline plus a minimum of 2 years software development experience. Must be fluent in English.Following is essential:
Strong software engineering with proven Ruby (on or off Rails) experience.
Ability to quickly learn new systems and processes.
Skilled at troubleshooting.
Experience working with services oriented architecture.
Experience programming with Ruby (on or off Rails)
Must be able to work on own initiative.
Motivated, self-starter, excellent communication skills and works well in teams.
Excellent communication skills with fluent written and oral English.
