Are you a collaborative backend developer who is eager to learn new things, while contributing to a more sustainable world? Then you sound like our new team member!

We are Blocket, Sweden’s largest and most popular marketplace with around 12,3M monthly active users generating 85 million sessions. We are proud of our work to enable second-hand trade in Sweden and our contribution to a positive environmental impact by saving 800 000 tonnes of greenhouse gases yearly.

Want to get a feel for the Blocket vibe? Check us out on Instagram & LinkedIn!

What you'll be up to:
So, what does our Search & Data team actually do? Well, we are three backend developers currently busy with building the foundation for the search experience at all of Blocket’s site, using software like Elasticsearch, Postgres and Kafka and modern CI/CD pipeline based on Git, Spinnaker and Travis.

Did we mention that we will soon only be found in the cloud (AWS) where we will run our services in Kubernetes? We mainly use Go for new functionality (lovely performance improvements!) and Python as well. Have you never worked with these languages but have experience in C#, Java, or other backend languages? Hey, as long as you are interested in learning our languages and immensely enjoy coding, we are equally interested in hearing from you!

Who you are
You are someone who’s curious by nature, puts team-wins first and most importantly has a strong willingness to learn! You will be building solutions that will be the foundation for the whole of Blocket, so you are probably a fan of quality solutions and are not afraid to try new things out. Developing a product like Blocket is truly a team effort and caring for each other is one of our core values.

Background/skills

- A degree is nice to have but what´s more important is your passion for solving problems and coding
- At least 2 years of programming experience in languages like Python, Go, Java or .NET
- Fluent in English
- Bonus if you have experience from developing online products!

Hello from your Manager!
Hello, Jenny Cahier here! My goal is to foster a joyful, caring and energetic atmosphere for my team. Transparency, empathy, and enthusiasm are the values that define my leadership style - I encourage developers to make decisions regarding backlog, prioritization, and code while I help out with steering and structure for the team. Now, that was a lot of difficult words stacked on top of each other. Basically it all comes down to having fun at work and respecting each other - two things we truly do in our team. If you would like to know even more about me, feel free to do so https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenny-cahier-8821b72/!

Interested in joining the Blocket world?

We look forward to hearing from you! Send your CV or apply with your LinkedIn-profile and let us know what makes you tick. We would love to get to know you a bit better! Have a link to some neat stuff on Git? Make sure to include a link when you apply.

#LI-BLOCKET eller #LI-BLOCKETTECH

The Blocket journey began in Skåne 1996 - since then the concept of Blocket has been exported to over 40 other countries. Today, Blocket, which is owned by the media group Schibsted, is Sweden’s largest online marketplace. There are approximately 600 000 items, vehicles, jobs and housing being advertised and discovered by its 5 million visitors every week. The value for all advertisements in 2018 amounted to SEK 714 billion - equal to 15 percent of Sweden’s GDP. Thanks to second-hand trading at Blocket, 0.8 million tonnes of greenhouse gases can be avoided every year. The output being equivalent to if Stockholm’s city roads stood empty for about a year. Blocket has approximately 240 colleagues and the office is located in central Stockholm. Together, we are passionate about second-hand trading, the environment and the continued growth of Blocket - one of Sweden’s largest sites. We are proud environmental heroes, https: //www.blocket.se/inspira ... and enjoy working together, https://www.blocket.career/.
