Software Engineering Lead - Early Science

We are currently looking for an Engineering Lead to join our Science and Enabling Units IT Solution Delivery Team. This role requires someone that codes daily, is self-motivated, and has a passion for development. We'll rely on you to bring your technical acumen to help the team continue to deliver world-class solutions.

In this role you will be part of our global development team which is migrating as close to as we can to a true DevOps model. You will be a factor in that transition. As an engineering lead, you will be working with stakeholders to understand and estimate requirements in the early science area. You are expected to provide tailored, operationally sustainable and complete solutions that fit the needs by using technology that best fits the solution. A solution is considered complete after you have developed, tested and released it. In some cases, you and your team will be expected to support your work after it has been released to our customers. You build it, you own it.

Based on requirements, a solution can be custom development, or enhancing and integrating an existing Commercial Off the Shelf Software (COTS). You should have an open mind regarding custom and COTS, the ability to make a decision on the right approach, and appropriate skillsets to do both custom development and COTS integrations and configurations.

Key Accountabilities

As an engineering lead, you will be responsible and accountable for the work you and your team deliver. You will be working with people across multiple locations and are expected to coordinate with both internal employees and external contractors. Your team will have a scope for expansion based on your success and effectiveness in this role.

We consider individuals in this role to be our top tier Software Engineers. A top tier software engineer is capable of working in multiple spaces and is likely to be the most experienced and skilled engineer on the team to begin with. Learning new technology is part of that. However, you must have deep technical skills. Here are a few skills we are looking for in a person for this role -

* Proficiency in traditional software programming languages like Java, .NET, C, and scripting languages like Python, VBA Script.
* Experience with working with Databases like Oracle, My SQL, SQL Server
* Experience with Rest API and general API design and usage
* Experience with cloud computing services like AWS.
* Experience with process tools like JIRA, Confluence and CI/CD tools like Jenkins and Bamboo
* Experience with Monitoring tools like Splunk and AppDynamics
* Experience with ITSM toolsets like ServiceNow or BMC Remedy
* Experience in analytics tools like Spotfire
* Exposure to commercial off the shelf systems like LIMS, eLN
* Problem solving
* Ability to use a technology that fits the need
* Ability and willingness to learn new technologies
* Experience leading teams, delivering and supporting solutions
* Research and informatics background.

Required Skills & Knowledge

* Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Math, Computer Science, Information Science, or equivalent degree is preferred but not required. We will hire self-taught engineers without a formal education given that you have evidence of rich history of software engineering.
* Long history of enjoying problem solving and building things
* Extensive hands on software development experience
* Previous leadership responsibilities on software delivery projects
