They are now looking for a Head of Technology to help them continue to disrupt the traditional design industry and break new ground by putting technology first.
The role
As the Head of Technology at Hem, your key responsibilities will be to own the teach stack and lead the Tech team towards fulfilling the company strategy. In parallel with leading by example with hands-on development and sprint planning, you will be responsible for all larger strategic questions related to tech and architecture. You will be part of the Digital leadership team consisting of the Product Manager and Digital Design Lead.
Your job will be to fulfil the vision of Hem’s digital platform that goes beyond the traditional e-com experience and strives to 1) surprise consumers and professional clients with functionality that simplifies their purchasing experience and 2) empower Hem employees with tech.
The website hem.com is the primary client touchpoint where clients meet Hem employees. The tech stack is built to automate the admin work (from the first interaction to the physically delivered product) – constantly nudging the client to transact independently – so that the employees can focus their time on value-adding interactions. As Head of Technology, you will work closely with cross-disciplinary stakeholders on improving features and functionalities of the platforms to improve Hem’s technology standards across the organization.
The tech stack is brand new and well-documented meaning you will be free from administrating old legacy systems and can focus on optimizations and new developments. The full infrastructure is built with a microservice architecture. Most of the backend infrastructure is built using Django/Django REST framework and Fast API, all hosted on Heroku. The frontend is built using React (Typescript) and GatsbyJS and hosted on Netlify.

Who are you?
In order to thrive in this role you understand that technology is a key vehicle to create a highly efficient and sustainable global business within the physical space.
You have most likely worked several years as a developer and successfully been leading tech teams.We think sustainability is important to you and a passion for creating great e-commerce experiences is countered by your issues with consumerism. You feel comfortable with handling a tech stack written in Python/Django, React (Typescript) and GatsbyJS and can understand the pros and cons of different languages.
Since it is a fast-paced environment at Hem, prior experience from working in a startup/scale-up environment is seen as a big plus.
Since the diverse Hem team consists of 14 different nationalities you need to be fluent in English in both written and spoken form. You are constantly seeking new learning opportunities and gets motivated by develop other people by sharing your knowledge.
