We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.

What we offer
At the department Product Validation and Functional Architecture, we are responsible for validation of end user value. Our team, Functional Architecture & Integration, coordinates function development throughout all product development phases and supports with function selection and integration. Do you enjoy working on complete vehicle level? Then the role as Lead C++ Developer is the place for you to prosper.

You will get the chance to work in a diverse team with mixed engineering backgrounds, together with real-time 3D specialists and product integration architects we develop state-of-the-art tools for virtual product integration and validation. Your work will be appreciated by many parts of the organisation and will play an important role in the development of new products.

What you’ll do
You will lead the development of the integration platform in which future product behaviour is simulated. You will share the team’s responsibility to prototype, integrate and evaluate functionality of future products (cars). This includes working with preliminary and defined function logic and to suggest how different functions should work together. You will also evaluate the user experience resulting from the combination of all functions and suggest improvements.

In order to best answer the many questions that arise during early product development, you will have access to a wide array of evaluation equipment, ranging from regular computers to full scale driving simulators and virtual reality.

Who are you?
Some of us are watching car reviews at breakfast, this is not a requirement, but you should be passionate about consumer products and cars! We work with innovation, the next generation products, and in early product development it is often important to be problem oriented (rather than solution oriented). Therefore, it is important that you find it easy to think in different abstraction levels, such as being able to describe the abilities of a product without mentioning any of its implementation.

Qualifications:
•    Academic background in a programming related field such as computer science or similar
•    Excellent programming skills in C++ and experience from application development.
•    Ability to explain advanced programming concepts to junior developers.
•    Understanding of the concept of state machines.
•    Experience in how to manage source code effectively, e.g. Git or subversion.

With our current setup it will be easier for you to contribute if you have previous experience from Rational Rhapsody Developer and function development with UML/SysML. The architectural parts of the integration platform are code based, whereas a lot of the content is model based. In your prototyping, practical knowledge within control theory, mechatronics, UX and system safety will be very useful. If you as a hobby enjoy building gadgets or program apps, you will feel right at home in this role.

The only way to succeed in this is to have a strong and inclusive team, where all of us are helpful and cooperative. Just as important as it is to be creative and skilled, is the ability to get things done on time and with quality. Only finished work has the chance of becoming innovations. Therefore, we need you to be organised and accountable.
