We are now intensifying our commitment to our digital development by strengthening the teams that work with digital product development, with a particular focus on streaming, personalisation and performance. Together, we are working to achieve our goal of creating the world’s best gaming experience.  

About Backend developer position with streaming focus  
We are looking for backend developers who will work in close collaboration both with app developers, as well as developers of streaming services. Your first task will be to work in collaboration with the product owner to determine what we need to do and try to form a road map. 
ATG has a daughter company, Kanal 75, which is a media company. They have photographers, program hosts, reporters, TV-studios and so on, but also the technology for ingesting live feeds from all our tracks around the country, mixing and editing and doing the playout, both for broadcast on linear TV, as well as doing the encoding for our live streaming. Kanal 75 is sending the live streams to GlobalConnect/IP-Only, which oversees both origin and edge distribution of our HLS streams. 

We want to improve the overall video quality, offering timeshift, minimize latency in the HLS streams, as well as look into other alternatives for low-latency streaming and a lot more. In order to achieve that we will do the origin part ourselves. 

There are no decisions taken yet if we will host streaming servers on-prem or use cloud services, nor what streaming server to use, so you will be able to influence the choice depending what you think is best for ATG, as well as what you feel most comfortable with. 

We are looking for an experienced developer of streaming services. You should have worked with Wowza, Unified Streaming or other similar streaming servers, where you have installed, configured and tweaked them; maybe by developing plugins or making integration services between the different components in order to achieve the desired results. 

Or equivalent if you only have experience of using cloud services like Wowza Cloud Streaming. 

Our backend services are developed in Java and Kotlin using Spring, packaged in docker containers and deployed on OpenShift (on-prem) or Kubernetes (cloud). There is lots of competence in-house when it comes to Spring, Docker, OpenShift and Kubernetes if you need some assistance with that, but you need to be an experienced developer in Java or Kotlin. If you have been developing plugins to Wowza, we know you possess the needed skills in Java. 

Requirements 

• Working with streaming servers like Wowza, Unified Streaming or similar 
• Developing streaming services using streaming servers (for example plugins, integrations, bundling, provisioning etc) 
• Java or Kotlin

• Deployment to OpenShift or Kubernetes 
• App development for iOS/Android, Chromecast or Apple-TV 
• CDN development 
• Spring framework 

About me – Johan Saur, Backend developer  
I am Johan and I have been working in the Horse Digital team at ATG for soon 2 years, as Senior Backend developer.  
While currently developing microservices in Java and Kotlin, I have also done the same using Scala when developing backend services for some major Swedish newspapers. In addition to that I have several years of experience of video streaming, including working as a backend developer at GlobalConnect/IP-Only (or Qbrick as it once was called). As a CDN supplier we developed and provided everything from ingest and origin to intermediate and edge cache and distribution of other streaming protocols, as well as other services needed to host a full scale CDN.  

I am a person who loves technical challenges and to have a good discussion about them with my colleagues. In my free time I like to carry around my camera and capture special moments, meet my friends and family, gym and watch movies preferably horror and sci-fi movies.
