Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.

About us
At Research & Development, you will be a key contributor to the next generation outstanding luxury cars from Volvo. Together with other engineers around the world, you and your team will create innovative human-centric car technology that makes life less complicated and more enjoyable for people. Are you interested in design and connected car technology? Do you share our passion for people, the environment and our urge to create a superior driving experience? Research and Development is the place for you to prosper.
What’s in it for you?
To support the new strategy with an aggressive plan for Electrification, Volvo Cars are currently moving to in-house development of key software components of the traction battery management system. Traction batteries are complex systems containing hundreds of battery cells together with a thermal conditioning system. In order to operate the battery optimally, it is important to know internal parameters of the battery cells, such as charge level, and available energy and power.
The Traction Battery Controls & Calibration (TBCC) is a part of the department Battery & Charging Controls. The department commit to deliver products with high quality and with an ownership that lays within the development teams in each Agile Release Train. TBCC:s main focus is to deliver an innovated and robust Battery SW platform for the next generation of hybrid and electrical vehicles.
What you’ll do
We are now looking for 2 candidates. One to join our SOx Team (State Of X, where x can stand for e.g. charge, health or power) and one to join our Thermal  Controls Team.
SOx Team: The vehicle’s supervisory drivetrain control unit for Electrical vehicles requires current and predictive information about the available pack power, energy and therefore remaining range. However, this information cannot be measured directly via conventional sensors, therefore, the team must analyse current, voltage and temperatures measurements and calculate based on advanced state estimation and prediction algorithms the missing information for controls purposes. The team develops advanced algorithms and support functions that monitor and protect the energy storage system in every conceivable way.
Thermal Team: The Traction Battery System is one of the main components responsible for vehicle attributes. In order to enable safe and efficient Traction Battery usage, the Thermal Controls software monitors, estimates, controls and diagnoses the battery thermal related functionalities.
In this role as SW developer, you will be a part of a highly agile and fast-paced team that delivers state of the art functionality.
The teams consist of Sub Functional Responsible, Developers and Testers. The team is responsible of the implementation and quality assurance of the SOx & Thermal SW components in the Traction Battery SW.  For implementation of functionality, the base tools are Matlab/Simulink. There are strict processes for quality assurance in-place. SPICE certification is also on the agenda. This to meet ISO 26262, and implementation of safety functionality. There is a complete toolchain for building the complete Autosar compliant SW packages that are tested in MIL, HIL and vehicle.
You and your skills
You have an engineering background within Electronics, Computer Science or Mechatronics. You have several years of experience from Simulation and Model-Based Design using MATLAB/ Simulink. Good experience in vehicle and HIL testing. Knowledge in Autosar, ISO 26262 or programming skills in C, C++ and Python is meritorious.
Do you fit the profile?
You are highly committed to deliver results. A team player and with good coordination and communication skills. Pro-active and persistent in achieving goals and cross-functional improvement. You have a Swedish Driver’s license and are fluent in English, spoken and written. You demonstrate a strong understanding of development processes and agile methodologies.
Volvo Cars is on an exciting journey, redefining the automotive experience by innovating to make people’s lives less complicated. We offer you a once-in-a-lifetime chance to make an impact in a company with unique opportunities to grow and make a true difference.
