The Position
Avalanche Studios Group is hiring a Multiplayer / Network Programmer for our central technology organisation. The role is open to any of our locations, Liverpool, New York, Stockholm or Malmö. Central Tech is our core technology team and we innovate in areas that push the boundaries of Open World Sandbox Games as well as improve, optimize and support our existing core technology. As a Multiplayer / Network Programmer you will be responsible for continuously improving our open-world engine Apex and ensure that our production teams in can leverage the full potential of the shared technology.

The award-winning Apex engine is a highly advanced and complex set of software and tools upon which we build the world's best open-world games. We have a solid reputation for producing fantastic looking open-world games and this is a great opportunity if you want to play an instrumental role in developing our engine. You will be a part of the development of our core technology towards true open world multiplayer.

In this role, you will design, develop and maintain libraries that facilitate multiplayer features in shipped games. You will work with stakeholders on game teams to understand needs, align expectations, support and educate in the use of shared technology and ultimately help realise their vision. You will refactor and consolidate existing solutions, often developed within game teams, to enable them to be more broadly deployed from with Central Tech. You will maximise the adoption and success in using this software by helping to identify and address shortfalls and improvements as well as by creating tools / utilities to aid in usage / debugging / optimisation.

Our ideal candidate has a strong passion for multiplayer gaming and has at least one year of experience in working on multiplayer features on a shipped PC/Console title. As with most multiplayer development, a keen sense that success lies in a satisfying and fun gameplay experience is important.

Required Qualifications

- Proficiency in C++ programming
- 3+ years of experience in the game industry
- 1+ years experience implementing multiplayer on a shipped title
- A strong passion for multiplayer games
- Strong coordination and collaboration skills
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken

Desired Qualification

- Experience from working with the platform specific services and APIs available for online presence, e.g. PSN, Xbox Live, Steam, PlayFab and Agones
- Experience with agile development (e.g. Kanban/Scrum)
- Automated software testing (e.g. TDD)
