COMSOL AB is seeking an engineer or physicist with an interest in continuum mechanics to join its structural mechanics development team in Stockholm.

We are looking for an individual with a strong background in finite element analysis, solid mechanics, and numerical methods. Experience in one or more of the following areas would provide a useful qualification:

  • Constitutive modeling (e.g. elastoplasticity, creep, poroelasticity, or piezoelectricity)
  • Composite materials and structures
  • Structural dynamics
  • Fatigue and fracture mechanics
  • Civil engineering analysis
  • Geomechanics
  • Heat treatment simulation
  • Use of COMSOL Multiphysics or other commercial finite element software

As development projects often include interaction with experts in other areas such as acoustics, fluid mechanics, and electromagnetism, a broad overview of various physics fields is an advantage.

Most of the development is done using our own tools, the Physics Builder and the Application Builder, but we also use Java and C/C++.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Implement new functionality in existing and new products.
  • Maintain the code base.
  • Write specifications for new functionality and GUI design.
  • Assist the global support and sales departments with challenging modeling problems.
  • Develop example models and apps.
  • Write technical documentation.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or M.S. with excellent merits. Continuum mechanics, physics, or applied mathematics are suitable specializations.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to quickly grasp new scientific topics.
  • Interest in numerical simulations.
  • Interest and talent for developing well-structured code.
  • Excellent English language skills, both verbal and written. Swedish language skills are not required.

COMSOL Offers

  • A challenging opportunity to expand your knowledge in a wide variety of physics application areas, and to work on problems spanning all engineering fields.
  • Working in highly creative and qualified teams with a diversity of experience.
  • Casual atmosphere in our office located in downtown Stockholm.
