Technical Writer

To support a growing product and organization, we are now looking for a Technical Writer to help us fight climate change with code.

As Technical Writer, you will become a Greenbyte product expert and teach others to become experts. You’ll plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the user experience. The content is often in the form of online documentation, but may also be UI text, in-app guides, videos, or other educational material. You excel at explaining complex topics in a way that’s useful to your audience.

This role is cross-functional, requiring close collaboration with product, engineering, sales engineering, and customer success. The Technical Writer asks a lot of questions, conducting user research and collecting information from a wide variety of sources throughout the organization to understand not only how each feature works, but also how it adds value for the user.

This job is located in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Expectations & Tasks

- Work directly with product teams and SMEs to create user documentation, step-by-step guides, and training material that enables effective onboarding of new users and adoption of new features and functionality.
- Create, manage, publish, measure effectiveness, and iteratively improve documentation to reach desirable outcome.
- Plan the structure and scope of documentation, taking advantage of structured authoring tools and concepts.
- Select the appropriate medium for the message or audience – manuals, guides, videos, Powerpoint, etc.
- Organize existing documentation into a logical flow.
- Gather user and stakeholder feedback about documentation, identify gaps or areas of improvement, and implement solutions.
- Empower others to write good documentation via templates, style guides, and clear information architecture.
- Help engineers write correct, user-friendly strings and ensure that strings adhere to the style guide.
- Act as the main point of contact with the translation company to manage translation of strings.

Who are you?

You have excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills. You can communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively to different audiences.

Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment. You like to work autonomously and can multi task. You’re comfortable prioritizing and saying no.

You have a strong understanding of software product design and are comfortable communicating with software engineers.

Minimum qualifications

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Flawless English writing.
- End-to-end experience with all aspects of user documentation lifecycle (create, manage, publish, measure effectiveness and iteratively improve to reach desirable outcome).
- Experience in XML-based authoring systems.
- Experience working directly with engineering teams on products built for a technical audience.

Preferred qualifications

- Proven track-record of planning and delivering B2B documentation for SaaS products.
- Extensive experience in best practices for creating user documentation and training material - what approaches work and which do not.
- Experience with HTML and CSS.
- Experience writing in-app guides.
- Experience with Paligo and/or AppCues.
- Domain knowledge (or a deep curiosity and motivated interest to learn) in renewable energy.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating relevant past work experience and deliverables.
