Why is this role important to us
In three years we have built a highly appreciated platform with a very slim team, but now it is time to really start our journey. We know that good and effective software engineering practices are vital for our continued growth. Because of this we care a lot about and put a lot of effort into our software architecture and for that we are in need of great software engineers on the team.

What will you do
You will work in our international team of designers and engineers, creating a platform that is already disrupting the way of hiring. You will be an early member of our engineering team and will be an important part of the continued growth of the team.

At Alva we strongly believe that experimentation is the best way of learning and making decisions about product and technology. Therefore we try our best to keep the feedback loops short to iteratively improve our product and our system. For this to be possible, we need a modern system that is fun and easy to work with.

We are using continuous deployment with automated deployment pipelines using TravisCI and infrastructure as code with Terraform.

The system that you will be working on is based on an event-driven microservice architecture. Our backend services are written in Python and our frontends are based on ReactJS with either JavaScript or TypeScript. All of our services are deployed in Google Cloud Platform using Google Kubernetes Engine and Cloud Run. The API between our frontend and backend is a GraphQL API.

Being an event-driven system, it is extensively using Google Cloud Pub/Sub and Protocol Buffers for event-delivery and encoding. Examples of other GCP services we are using are:

- Cloud Firestore
- Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL
- Cloud Tasks
- Google Bigquery

Working as a full-stack engineer at Alva, you will work and interact with all parts of the system on a regular basis. All in all, we think that our system is a fun and rewarding system to work with. What have you done before
Ideally, you have lived well and prospered in whatever you decided to do prior to reading this job ad. Honestly, background isn’t what we value the highest. As long as you are a great person, with some background in software engineering, we believe you will learn the rest while working at Alva. But sure, if you have previous experience working with the technologies mentioned above or similar, that would be beneficial.
