Over the course of the past five years we have grown to a business of over 700 Instaboxers united by a single purpose; providing the smoothest shipping experience known to man. We’re fast, both in terms of parcel delivery and when it comes to growing our business. As we continue to expand the complexity of Instabox grows in parallel, with that in mind we are now looking for a Backend Developer to help us govern our journey ahead. What you will be doing

As a Backend Developer at Instabox you will be working in a small agile cross-functional team with a clear mission and problem space to solve. All of our teams are highly collaborative and we are looking for people who thrive from working closely with other engineers and solving problems together. Depending on your preference and skillset you might be well suited for our Routing, Merchant Integrations or Communication and Billing team.

Our engineers make some of the most important decisions for the company and our products and we are looking for people who want to get things done and have an impact. Here you will have the opportunity to take real ownership for the services that are owned by your team. Scalability, simplicity and elegance are key words in all of our teams - combined with low latency, high availability and *insert more standard stuff*. That wasn’t a typo, we left it there because we figure you already know what this role entails… Its a Backend role in a hyper-growth tech company, some standard stuff will inevitably apply. However the part about collaboration, ownership and impact we’re not joking about. That is just the way we work at Instabox because it’s more fun that way and produces better results. Then there is the stack. Lets just say that you will be working with a smaller smorgasbord of technologies, however we will be looking to you for suggestions and input to choose the right tool for the job. Some of stuff you’ll get to work with from day one;

• Node.js (JS and/or TypeScript)
• PostgreSQL and MongoDB
• Terraform
• GCP/GKE
• Google Cloud Pub/Sub

Depending on your profile and which team you fit in, you may get to work with some of the following:

• Go
• redis

Who you are

At Instabox we value individuals who are keen to learn, and your eagerness to develop your own skill set will undoubtedly be your strongest asset when joining us. If you are the kind of person who enjoys tinkering with personal projects, or a dedicated open source contributor, or a really skilled developer who loves coding and making complex things work, then this is the place for you. Beyond that we imagine that you would have some of the following points on your resumé.

• Between two and seven years experience in a backend or fullstack role
• Extensive experience with JavaScript/Node.js
• PostgreSQL and/or MongoDB experience (or equivalent database technologies)
• Basic understanding of Terraform and Debian/Ubuntu (any Linux distro would apply)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
