Powertrain Strategic Development Department is responsible to make the transition from conventional powertrains to hydrogen-based ones. We are at the center of development and expertise of Hydrogen solutions across Volvo Group.

Our team, the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) System Group is a multi-disciplinary focused team that includes design, combustion system, 1D/3D simulations, EATS, Controls, testing and verification. We are 11 engaged people that thrive on finding the best solutions, working together with other colleagues from different parts of Volvo organization. Our current mission is to develop a transport solution powered by a Hydrogen Engine, as a complement to battery electric, fuel cells and other renewable fuels. We are looking for a new colleague that will work as an Embedded Software Application Engineer. Are you the one?

WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER

As an Embedded Software Application Engineer you will help with the definition of the Control System architecture and strategy for H2 ICE system. You will be able to establish close collaboration with local and global experts from different areas across the organization and act as a bridge between strategic development and traditional product development. This role also gives you the opportunity to collaborate with external research partners, suppliers and internal stakeholders for developing solutions together.

In this position, you will explore top-notch Advanced Control Research to apply in Volvo Products and help on the Customer Success as well as contribute to the definition of a H2 ICE powertrain concept architecture as a whole. You will be able to develop efficient embedded control software for the new H2 ICE powertrain solutions. You will also create and verify new software functionalities to match new requirements, new systems, new sensors and actuators. Here you will interact with the powertrain software platform development group to maximize the benefit for the customer, secure software commonality and knowledge reuse.

Other requirements that would be beneficial for this role are:

• M.Sc. Engineering (Mechatronics, Computer Science, Automation, Electronics, Applied Physics, Mechanics)
• Minimum 2 years of experience in developing model-based strategies in embedded software environment
• Minimum 3 years of experience with powertrain product development
• Experience from 2 or more of the following areas: Embedded software design, SW verification, control theory, OBD, simulation, combustion engine calibration and data analysis
• Programming using Model based tools Matlab / Simulink / Targetlink, XML, C and Python
• Knowledge of Automotive communication standards (ISO, CAN, LIN)
• Knowledge of functional testing using CANAlyser and ATI Vision
• Knowledge in verification and debugging tools
• Fluent in English

Other requirements that could be a merit:

• Knowledge in spark ignited engines, knock control, engine sensors and actuators
• Knowledge in combustion engines, fuel injection systems and aftertreatment systems
• Experience in Volvo Powertrain SW development toolchain (specially engine control)
