Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.

What’s in it for you?
Our purpose at Vehicle Energy and Motion Control (VEMC), is to create the most energy efficient, safe and situation adapted ride and drive experience. By evaluating driver input, surrounding information (e.g. camera, radar and route data) and Autonomous Drive request, as well as vehicle state sensor input, our software (mainly inhouse developed) coordinates the different actuators (engine, motors, brakes, steering) to fulfill our purpose and balance vehicle attributes.
We have the responsibility to design, implement and tune the software components needed to fulfil our purpose. Our software components are deployed in various nodes in the vehicle but also in the cloud. We are today about 150 ambitious and experienced engineers doing this together.

What will you do?
Within the Energy Efficiency group, we are now looking for a software developer and test engineer to one of the development teams. The teams are working with inhouse developed software, mainly model-based using Simulink with target link or embedded coder, but also some C/C++ and Java. Our software components are deployed in various nodes (EMC, VCU1, IHU and Cloud), but sometimes work is also done in rapid prototyping systems (like ETAS ES910 or dSPACE AutoBox) to support build of prototype vehicles.
The group’s main responsibility is the ownership of the Vehicle Energy Management and Driver Coaching functions, which means creating system solution and software supporting functionality like; Electrical Distance to Empty (range prediction), route based optimized charge/discharge of electric energy, predictive thermal management, smart pre-conditioning, eco coach, etc. The purpose is to minimize the energy consumption of the vehicle, actively or by coaching the driver. Solutions are developed for all types of vehicles (hybrids and fully electric).
Your role and initial tasks will be based upon the competence and experience you bring into the team, but independently of your tasks you will need to collaborate with many different teams and individuals, both internal and external to the department.
