Data Engineer to SSAB!

As Data Engineer at SSAB you will be building data pipelines and create Big Data processing capacities encompassing many of the systems in the Oxelösund steel plant. The plant can be described as a giant machine running 24-7, 365 days a year. SSAB is world leading when it comes to high strength steels and the largest steel producer in the Nordics. So, to start with, the stats are impressive, but this is only the beginning.

SSAB is right now launching one of it´s largest investments ever, to start produce fossil free steel by 2026, through a technology called HYBRIT. For Oxelösund this means rebuilding the factory, and a total overhaul of all IT-systems. Over the coming years systems will be exchanged for a state of the art IT environment. In other words, you as a Data Engineer will have an opportunity of a lifetime, to help create the smartest, most digitized fossil free steel factory in the world!

Your responsibilities as a Data Engineer at SSAB will for starters be to learn existing data infrastructure and then be the link between automation developers and Data Scientist. You will be mapping and collecting vast amounts of data from our 700 systems. On the horizon is the creation of a Data Lake, and improve our Big Data analysis capabilities, probably via Kafka and a Hadoop cluster. Other solutions might also come into play, and Azure DW might be part of our DW. What road we choose is partly up to you :)

5G and new IoT functionality to come will also further increase the available data in the coming years!

Your team today consists of 2 automation developers and one Data Scientist, meaning that you will have good learning opportunities withing their fields. You will also have close collaboration with another team of developers, as well as a larger team of system construction engineers.

Considering the location, Oxelösund, you can work from a distance, but if you can be at the office at least once or twice a week we would be very happy. WHO ARE YOU?

Considering the great changes coming along in this Data Engineer role, you hopefully like change and implementation of new systems as well as developing new data processes and implementing new platforms and tools. If you also are a teamplayer and a person that likes to have a close dialogue with the business and other teams within IT you will have a great time at SSAB!

You need to have experience of Linux and Open source technology and work with Big Data structures. More specifically previous work with Hadoop clusters and Kafka will be highly valued. You also need some kind of SQL dialect experience as well as experience of an Object oriented language (like Java, C#, C++ or other).

If you also have experience from Azure Data Warehousing (or other Cloud solution), integrations and Python you are seen as highly attractive by us. These skills are on the meritorious list.
