Lead Backend Engineer

Our clients include the world’s top tier of auctioneers, antique dealers, galleries as well as regional and local businesses. We offer a search service with 600,000+ items for sale, an extensive database of auction results, a top of the line valuation service, and a white label auction and gallery system. We are now looking to grow our business even further and are seeking top talent to join our team.

We’re looking for a skilled Lead Back-End Engineer to join our team based in Stockholm. As a part of the Barnebys Platform team you would be working on building and maintaining our Platform for our original and highly valuable Traffic business.

The Barnebys Platform is built with the goal to offer all available auction objects to everyone and you will be a crucial part in that mission.

The Barnebys Platform is utilizing and built on technologies like Vercel, GCP, PHP, JavaScript, React, Next.JS, Docker, Kubernetes, MySQL.

What you’ll do:
- Be a driving contributor to the team to plan, design and build elegant solutions.
- Write testable, maintainable and scalable code, always with a quality mindset.
- Monitor, test and continuously optimize our infrastructure, architecture and software design.
- Work in a cross-functional team delivering premium experience to our customers and users.
- Design, develop, deploy and maintain backend services with focus on high availability, low latency and scalability.

Who you are:

- Have a proven strong knowledge of MySQL and understanding of other databases with at least 5 years of working database experience. You are native in designing and maintaining databases.
- Have a proven strong knowledge of PHP 7+ and JavaScript with at least 5 years of working experience in developing scalable systems.
- Have a proven working experience developing web applications.
- Have a proven working experience developing RESTFul and GraphQL API’s.
- Have a proven knowledge about PHP frameworks such as Doctrine, Symfony.
- Have a proven knowledge about Git and Git Flow.
- Have a proven knowledge of cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS and Azure. (cloud functions/lambdas, managed services and IAM management)
- Have experience in virtual environments such as Docker and Vagrant.
- Good communication skills in both written and spoken English.
- Experience in working within the auction or e-commerce domain is a plus.
- You look at programming languages as tools and not constraints. You’re not afraid to go out of your comfort zone.
- You know and care about sound engineering practices
- You understand the need for communication within a team and that the team is stronger than its individual parts. Our teams are self organized with tight communications to stakeholders in an agile environment.
- You know that technical decisions and business decisions are both equally important when building world class software.
- You have an interest in open source software and might even be contributing.
