DevOps Platform Engineer

About the team

We are an Agile team that uses knowledge graphs and machine learning in collaboration with our scientists to help develop better drugs faster, choose the right treatment for a patient and run safer clinical trials. The team is a wide mix including Software Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers, Data Scientists, Ontologists and Bioinformaticians. We are looking for a DevOps Platform Engineer that will be embedded within our team and become a core pillar of what we do.

About the role

We believe DevOps is a culture and a responsibility shared by the whole team. We are looking to add a skilled and self-driven DevOps Platform Engineer to be embedded in the team and take our DevOps to the next level, by supporting the team with specialist knowledge and owning our developer infrastructure. You will have the freedom to be creative and make your mark by driving developer productivity in a supportive and encouraging environment. You will help us in simplifying, automating, and creating easy-to-work environments that accelerate innovative science.

What you will do

Your focus will be on our platforms, security, and operations with the aim of speeding up development and improving our applications quality and reliability.

Objectives of this Role

* Maintain and improve our developer platform (GitHub, Azure and Kubernetes)
* Ensuring that systems are safe and secure against cybersecurity threats
* Support the teams' operations (build systems, GitOps, CI/CD pipelines)
* Building efficient and reliable CI/CD pipelines
* Mentoring team members on DevOps best practices
* Identifying technical problems and deploying updates and fixes
* Working on ways to simplify, automate and improve our team's development and release processes
* Owning the future direction of our platform and DevOps approach by evaluation and implementation of new and emerging technologies
* Collaborate with and be the interface for AstraZeneca's other platform teams
* Help to establish DataOps and MLOps best practices

What you will need

Essential

* Independent, creative & a problem-solving attitude
* BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Engineering field or relevant experience
* Experience as a DevOps/Platform Engineer or similar software engineering role
* Proficient with Git and GitOps workflows (GitHub preferred)
* CI/CD and other automation experience (preferably GitHub Actions)
* Familiarity with Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, containers, Helm, and container orchestration technologies
* Experience with Terraform and Ansible
* Cloud environment experience (Azure or AWS is preferred)
* Good knowledge of Python and Bash
* Strong knowledge of Linux
* Working knowledge of databases and SQL
* Collaborative team spirit

Bonus points if you have:

* Previous experience with GitHub and GitHub Actions
* Experience working as a DevOps/Platform Engineer embedded within a cross-functional and Agile team
* Experience with ElasticSearch, Clickhouse and Postgres
* Knowledge of DataOps or MLOps
* Exposure to data science and machine learning workflows
* Knowledge of secure coding practices including OWASP, secrets management, and vulnerability remediation
