Gapminder’s mission is to promote a fact-based worldview everybody can understand. We have a vision of a world where all people can use facts to understand the world, to make better decisions for positive change. By extensive knowledge testing, we identify systematic misconceptions about the world, and develop free communication and teaching materials (with data-driven storytelling and animating statistics) to dismantle them. Now we are looking for new Software Developers to join our team!

DAY TO DAY TASKS

Software Development

• Develop stable software based on feature specified by the Product Manager
• Fix bugs and troubleshoot problems
• Sometimes maintain and improve Gapminder's legacy technology
• Keep track of industry trends and advancements in digital media technology
• When needed, write the fastest possible implementation for experimenting with e.g. new visualisations
• Writing both front-end GUIs (Javascript-based) as well as back-end (Java-based) logic for longer or shorter periods, determined by the product plan

Team collaboration

• Follow the production pipeline as defined by the Tech Lead for iterative development and deployment of regular updates of online & offline software
• Follow, maintain and refine the team's coding guidelines
• Collaborate with the rest of the team, following agile development processes
• Help keep time-estimates realistic to ensure products with high quality, that meet planned deadlines
• Take part in code reviews of your own work, and the work of others.

QUALIFICATIONS

The work requires thorough knowledge of standard web technologies, both server and client. You need to have good experience of: JavaScript, d3.js, Node.js, PHP, Yii, SQL or NoSQL. Knowledge of Gapminder’s data format DDF is a huge plus.

Just so you know: we pay less attention to your academic scores and more attention to url's to websites that show your skills. In case you are missing some qualification, please be honest about it. You may still be able to convince us that you're the right person for the job.

Swedish language skills are not required, but it's OK; Om du helst pratar svenska så går det också bra.
