Cloud backend architect

As a Cloud backend architect, you will be part of our small and fast growing web team that's creating the digital infrastructure for the custom future. You’ll be central in selecting the right tools and setting the direction for a large scale web infrastructure, consisting of secure data storage, real-time event processing, analytics and monitoring.

The role
As part of the web team at Volumental, you will:

• Solve challenging and fun problems like: How to compute, analyse and store millions of models of bodies in a fast, secure and scalable way? How to interface with the e-commerce giants of the world to create a great shopping experience where fit is always guaranteed? How to monitor thousands of in-store devices with sporadic connectivity?
• Be architecting things from scratch that we will scale to millions of users (one of the benefits of a fast-growing startup!).
• Be doing stuff most companies don’t do, like REST APIs talking to hardware devices, algo servers with GPUs (dynamically scaled based on demand), real time event dispatch and web apps (handsets, 3D visualisation, etc.).
• You’re highly encouraged to spend time and attend courses and conferences to develop new skills and excel at these tasks.

Skills & Requirements

• You like building or maintaining large scale web deployments with hundreds of thousands of users.
• You've used at least one major cloud infrastructure provider (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
• You enjoy big data analysis and have used tools like for example Storm, Spark, Cassandra, Kafka, Samza or Hadoop.
• You have worked with common web frameworks, including Python based frameworks such as Flask or Django.
• You understand RESTful design principles.
• Bonus points for interest in authentication and data security.
