Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees thanks to, among all, an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!

National Supercomputer Centre (NSC) houses large-scale parallel computer systems and advanced computer graphics equipment for visualisation and virtual reality. We hold courses in the use of high-performance computing (HPC) resources, run a help desk and collaborate directly with R&D projects in the HPC field. Our aim is to provide Sweden’s most attractive environment for research in scientific fields that perform large-scale calculations and other e-science activities. Our computers are available to users around the clock, every day of the year.

Hereby advertises positions as Application experts in AI/ML at the National Supercomputer Centre in Sweden

Duties

• Your future work assignments
You will join an existing group of nine domain experts at NSC – application experts with varying domain knowledge – who have for ten years been working on effective use of NSC’s computational resources. The group works closely together with NSC’s technical experts – a collaboration which NSC sees as key to its successful work on user-friendly services. Compute clusters and distributed data storage at the technological forefront are the main tools in this work, and the end users are Sweden’s most prominent researchers. The job is based in Linköping, with the possibility of remote work up to 40% of the time. The position will intimately collaborate with the SciLifeLab Data Centre team, to interface with users in the life science field including researchers, infrastructure providers, scientific software developers, bioinformaticians, etc.

There are two areas of focus for this position: computation and data processing. These two areas have a lot of overlap, requiring an ability to see the wider picture when coming up with solutions. Your overarching task is to maximise what researchers get out of the time they spend using the computation and storage resources. The work tasks are highly varied and follows in general the needs identified among user groups as well as within NSC.

• Works tasks can include:

• Developing Berzelius and upcoming recourses user-friendliness in various respects, especially in parallel/distributed training of DNNs
• Developing services to support new workflows with, for example, sensitive data, container solutions or collaboration platforms
• Identifying researchers’ needs
• Keeping up to date with technological developments and providing expert support in future procurements of technological solutions
• Collaboratively developing services together with NSC’s technical experts as well as with the other application experts at NSC, external parties and researchers
• Helping research groups with technological queries
• Providing direct support for researchers
• Parallelisation studies and user support
• Remedy bottlenecks in the data flow from the distributed data storage systems to the compute resources

• You will have lots of freedom in implementing the services that we offer our users. The compute and storage clusters use Linux, and it is assumed that you will be highly fluent in Linux/Unix in your work and collaborations with both NSC and user groups.
