Master Thesis Work - Simulation for predicting airborne noise of drivelines with noise shields
Background:
Volvo Penta drivelines operate in a huge number of environments and vehicles.
There is a need of low emitted noise due to care of the environment and satisfied customers.
The inherent driveline parts must be optimized for low noise.
Noise shields of different materials with different noise cancelling efficiencies are commonly used to reduce the noise even further.
At Volvo Penta there is a need of understanding and to develop a simulation method to predict the effect of different noise shields and barriers.
Simulations must be done early in projects to ensure that the products will meet the Volvo Penta and the customer requirements
Thesis work objective:
Aim
The objective of this thesis is to create a model and perform air borne noise simulations in Actran of a driveline or component that include a noise shield and correlate this to measurements.
First step
A literature study should be performed to find existing studies regarding air borne noise simulation and modelling of the most common materials used in noise shields outside and within Volvo Group.
Second step
Perform measurement for material calibration.
Third step
Create a simulation model that include a noise shield and calibrate with measurement data.
