Imagine being involved in the world's largest particle accelerator facilities. Imagine taking part in the development of some of the largest and most complex control systems you can think of. Imagine an Organization where you can collaborate with engineers, technicians and physicists. Imagine a place where you can do all this. CERN, take part!

Introduction

Software Engineer in the Beams Department (BE), Industrial Controls and Safety Group (ICS), SCADA and Distributed Systems Section (SDS).

You will join:
.The Beams (BE) Department, which is responsible for beam performance over the complete CERN accelerator chain, from the source to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and which carries out Research and Development (R&D) activities on the upgrade of the LHC, its injectors and on future accelerators.
.The Industrial Controls and Safety Systems (ICS) Group which develops solutions and provides support for large and medium scale industrial and laboratory control systems and also promotes their use. The support covers the domains of the experiments, the technical infrastructure, and the accelerators.
.The SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and Distributed Systems Section (SDS) that designs, implements and supports controls applications. These applications are based on two software frameworks that are provided to physicists and engineers inside and outside the Group for developing control systems. These frameworks are structured in components that are mainly based on a commercial SCADA tool and use both off-the-shelf and custom developed front-end systems. The section is very actively involved in the application of modern data analytics techniques to controls data.

Functions

As a Software Engineer in the SCADA and Distributed Systems Section, you will:

.Take the responsibility for the SCADA Application Service, that currently hosts a large number of projects for many CERN installations (e.g. Cryogenics, Gas, Vacuum, etc).
.Take a leading role in the domain of data analytics applied to controls system data.
.Write, debug and test software for control systems. In particular:
?Develop extensions and new functionality of the CERN controls frameworks according to the needs agreed with the users;
?Develop end user applications, making use of the controls frameworks.
.As part of a small support team, take an active role in the support effort to CERN users of Industrial Control Systems, in particular for WinCC Open Architecture (OA) and the above mentioned frameworks.
.Keep abreast of the latest developments in modern software technologies, evaluate how they can be applied to industrial controls at CERN and make proposals on their potential integration to improve existing systems and services.
.Take an active role in the lead, planning and management of the development of industrial control tools and applications in all of CERN domains (i.e. experiments, accelerators and technical infrastructure).
