Description
Infinera Metro Business Group is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Component Engineer to join our exciting, fast growing company. This experienced individual will provide expert level component engineering support for all Infinera Metro BG hardware products. Working in a highly collaborative environment with R&D and Strategic Sourcing, Hardware Engineering, Technical Operations team and our suppliers, this individual will contribute to component and major sub-assembly selection and qualification. This position reports to Director of NPI & Sustaining and is based at our headquarters in Årstadal, Stockholm, Sweden.

Responsibilities
- Collaborates closely with the R&D and Strategic Sourcing in selection, qualification, approvals, changes and additions to the approved component list.
- Identifies and qualifies (together with R&D) alternate component sources to minimize risk in the supply chain and to support cost reduction and quality improvements.
- Reviews new component and sub-assembly specifications to ensure form, fit and function compatibility with products and existing sources in the approved component list.
- Drives and tracks component qualification through established processes. Works to improve existing processes and define new processes for component qualification for a broad range of commodities.
- May monitor component quality over a broad range of commodities in manufacturing and the field; drives component manufacturers to root cause and corrective action implementation and verification. Acts as the technical point person for component quality/performance issues.
- Manages the component database and corresponding documentation including component specifications and relevant supporting documentation from suppliers.
- Review supplier Part/Product Change Notifications (PCN), End of Life notifications (EOL) and determines product impact.
- Flags end of life or obsolete components and ensure qualifications of new components are completed to ensure ongoing source of supply.
- Uses industry best practices in change control management to track approved components in the component database (ECO, MCO, deviations, etc.).
- Ensures the corporate RoHS, Reach and conflict minerals initiatives are met for all materials used in our products, ensuring the completeness of supporting documentation is in place to meet the appropriate directives.
- Drive cost reduction activities by managing the selection of alternate components for new and existing products.

SKILLS:
- Broad knowledge and experience with multiple commodities (CPU, memory, ASIC, FPGA, PCBA, DIMM, power components, power supplies, electro-mechanical assemblies, enclosures) with expert level experience one or more area is necessary.
- Demonstrated knowledge of failure mechanisms in electrical and electro-mechanical components and assemblies over a wide range of commodities.
- Working knowledge of industry best practices for component and product level qualification and design verification testing.
- Communication skills, both written and verbal, and a highly collaborative working style in a team environment is a must.
- Demonstrated technical and operational problem solving and solution implementation skills in complex, highly interactive environments.
- Experience in partnering with multiple industry leading EMS and OEM/ODM providers is a requirement.
