Data Scientist, Finance - Games

At Embark Studios, as a Data Scientist, you will be an integral part of a dedicated team of data professionals. Your specific focus in this role is on the financial side, where you'll be pivotal in supporting our game titles. You will also be responsible for creating financial reports that are both accessible and actionable, thereby assisting the game team in their mission to develop player-focused experiences while meeting their commercial KPIs. Your analytical mindset, technical skills, and self-driven attitude will contribute to the strategic decision-making within our dynamic game development environment. Example of responsibilities

Data Analysis and Insights

- Utilize SQL, BigQuery, and Python scripting to extract, transform, and analyze large datasets from various sources, including game-related transactions and user behavior.
- Create and maintain financial models, forecasts, and budgeting processes to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Prepare and present regular financial statements and reports

Financial reporting

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate recognition of game-related revenue in compliance with accounting standards.

- Analyze revenue streams and associated costs, identifying trends, anomalies, and potential areas for optimization.

- Reconciliation of revenue data from different sources.

- Develop and maintain revenue recognition policies and procedures in alignment with industry best practices.

Collaboration and Communication

- Work closely with game development teams to understand the impact of in-game mechanics on revenue and user engagement.
- Collaborate with studio finance to ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Present complex financial information in a clear, accessible, and concise manner.

We would love if you have

- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with database querying, preferably using tools such as BigQuery.

- Proven experience in financial analysis and revenue recognition, preferably in the gaming or technology industry.

- Solid understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, and revenue recognition standards.

- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to translate data into meaningful insights and recommendations.

- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

- Proven experience in being self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines.

Good to have

- Proficiency in Python scripting for data manipulation and analysis
- Experience with financial modeling
- You thrive in a fast-paced environment where your skills depend on personal independence and agility
