VACANCY
The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's leading facility for scientific research using neutrons. Every year the ILL welcomes more than 2000 visiting scientists to carry out world-class research on its experimental stations (known as "instruments"). Within the Projects and Techniques Division, the IT Service is responsible for providing solutions and infrastructure for the entire ILL. The IT Service currently has a vacancy for a:
System and Network Administrator (M/F)
(Indefinite-term contract)
Duties:
As an active member of the "Network and Data Services" group, currently a team of 4, you will have the following duties:
- Assist scientific users with managing the storage of experimental data (1PB)
- Participate actively in the maintenance and development of networks, storage devices, and backup infrastructure and services (2 data centres, 150 switches, 150 Wireless Access Points)
- Administer the physical and virtual Linux servers and monitor on a daily basis the standard network services and their security
- Provide and maintain computing facilities (HPC cluster, workstations for data analyses and cloud solution).
Qualifications and experience:
You have a degree level qualification (BSc, Licence, HND, HNC, BTS, DUT, Bachelor, Meister, Vordiplom, Perito, Laurea Triennale, Diplomatura, Ingeniera Técnica or equivalent) in computing. You have experience in UNIX system administration and LAN network administration.
You have a sound knowledge of TCP/IP and storage technologies (NFS, SAN, LVM, ZFS) and are proficient in scripting languages (SHELL, Python).
Experience in HPC and Cloud technology would be appreciated.
Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
