The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, and founded by France, Germany and the United Kingdom, is Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world, reliably delivering intense neutron beams to 40 unique scientific instruments. The Institute welcomes over 2000 visiting scientists per year to carry out world-class research in solid-state physics, crystallography, soft matter, biology, chemistry and fundamental physics. The Projects and Techniques Division, which is responsible for the development of the ILL's instruments and for technical support, currently has a vacancy in its Instrument Control Service for a:

Software Engineer (M/F)

Duties:
As a member of the team of engineers responsible for the development of the NOMAD instrument control system in use at the ILL, you will be responsible for:
- Upgrading and maintaining the software, with special emphasis on the graphical user interface (GUI)
- Developing real-time data visualisation and the tools associated with data handling
- Deploying the software on a number of scientific instruments and contributing to technical specifications.
After an appropriate period of training, you will join the software support team.

Qualifications and experience:
You have a Master's degree (or equivalent qualification) in Computer Science and solid experience in object-oriented programming, with specific skills in C++ and Java.
You have a good knowledge of all modern version control tools.
You are accustomed to writing software for industrial applications.
A proven "hands-on" attitude would be an asset.
Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
