Software Developer, Crane Systems

You will be part of Crane Systems in Västerås. ABBs business for crane systems assists ports and shipping companies to transfer containers in a reliable, quick and cost efficient way. Crane Systems is specialized in advanced automation and information systems for motion control of all types of container cranes. We are the leading supplier of crane systems and are active worldwide. In the large terminal automation projects we deliver electric and automation systems for 50 to 100 cranes, to the major container ports in Europe, Asia and North America.

In a modern container terminal there are remotely controlled Ship-To-Shore cranes, which handle the loading/off-loading of the container ships. These are in the storage yard supported by stacking cranes, robotized cranes weighing hundreds of tons, which automatically move and with high precision stack the containers. The operation of all the cranes is controlled from a central control room in order to optimize the productivity of the terminal.

We are looking for a Software Developer who wants to take on a creative role in the rapidly growing market for robotized crane systems. You will be working with world leading technology and international customers. As Software Developer at Crane Systems, you will work with technically advanced products with high development pace and be part of the Logistics and Analytics team. The team develops the software that controls a large group of automatic cranes in container terminals. The terminals manage tens of thousand of containers on a daily basis. Your assignment will be to develop logistics and optimization functions in order to provide job orders to the cranes. You will also verify solutions through simulations and improve our customers? productivity by using site tests and statistical analysis. As we continuously provide more complete systems and tools, the demands from our customers have been more sophisticated. As a result, our colleagues at the R&D department are striving towards becoming more innovative, in terms of both technology and functionality. With the majority of our customers being located abroad, you will be provided with the opportunity to travel.

You hold a university degree with specialization in Computer Science, or equivalent, and know C/C++, Java and .NET. Experience from computer software design and architecture will also be to your advantage. As you will be provided with a broad international network, it is important that you master English, both written and spoken. Further language skills are qualifying. Although we do value a few years? work experience, you may also be in the beginning of your career. Most important are your drive and will to deepen your
knowledge and learn new things. You have a genuine interest in technology and thrive both when collaborating and working independently.
