Developer (Ruby/ClojureScript) to Zimpler
Zimpler (Smart Payments Nordic AB) is a leading start-up within the fintech industry focusing on mobile payments for the iGaming Business. The company was founded in 2012 and launched its first version of the payment solution in 2013. Today, Zimpler is one of the fastest growing IT start-ups in Sweden with a revenue growth of 200% in 2015. They have two offices in Sweden; HQ in Stockholm and R&D in Gothenburg with a total of 20 employees.

The company is well-funded and controlled by the Financial Supervisory Authority (Finansinspektionen). There are currently around 200 gaming operators in Sweden and Finland that use Zimpler and very soon, the solution will be launched in the UK and a few other countries as well. In order to expand globally, Zimpler needs to hire a number of strong developers and further perfectionate Zimpler as a product.

About the Product:
Not only does Zimpler offer its users a simple and effective solution to complete their payments through the mobile phone, it also gives them the opportunity to take control over their gaming. By using Zimpler, the user can see the total spending, deposits, and winnings across all different sites. The user can also choose to put limits on his or her gaming which helps preventing addictions. This is unique to Zimpler – no other solutions is able to do this today.

This Opportunity
As a developer at Zimpler you will be part of an experienced team of six agile developers working with Ruby, Rails and ClojureScript. The solution is hosted on AWS and for automation they use Ansible. They put great value on simple, orthogonal and elegant code. Zimpler’s developers have a lot of freedom and responsibility and new ideas are always welcome. Being creative and using the whiteboard for brainstorming are part of their daily activities, as well as pair programming.

In order to succeed in this role, we believe that you have a few years’ experience of programming in a modern tech environment. Experience of Ruby development and ClojureScript will be helpful, but is not required. At Zimpler, we believe that talented developers will not be limited to one language or one environment. Instead, we value bright developers with an interest to learn new techniques and tools and with the ability to adapt quickly to changes. Decent oral and written skills in English are required. Proficiency in Swedish is a plus.

Dfind IT carried out a Joel Test with Zimpler to rate the quality of their software team. The test includes 12 questions and Zimpler answered YES on XX out of 12 questions, which indicates a very modern and efficient development environment. You can view the test below:

Joel Test
1. Do you use source control? Yes, Git.
2. Can you make a build in one step? Yes. We don't need to do builds, but we have automated deploying, server setup, and so on.
3. Do you make daily builds? Even better, we have feature branches in git, with pull requests in GitHub, and Travis doing continuous integration.
4. Do you have a bug database? Yes. Bugs go into Pivotal Tracker.
5. Do you fix bugs before writing new code? Yes, at least as a general rule.
6. Do you have an up-to-date schedule? Yes. That is, even though we try to avoid making up deadlines, we do track progress and plan accordingly.
7. Do you have a spec? Kind of. Features are researched before coding, and all is documented using Dropbox Papers.
8. Do programmers have quiet working conditions? We do our best. 2-4 desks in each room, and we provide noise canceling headphones. We often use asynchronous communication like Slack to ease on interruptions.
9. Do you use the best tools money can buy? Perhaps not extravagantly so, but yes.
10. Do you have testers? No. We depend on automated tests to give us confidence to deploy on a whim.
11. Do new candidates write code during their interview? Yes. We try to do half a day of pair programming as the last interview step. Real work that is deployed to production at the end.
12. Do you do hallway usability testing? Yes, we do test on friends and family, but also calling our users, and doing other research. User experience and usability are central to what we do.
