Department

Your work will take place at the department of Computer Vision and Active Perception (CVAP).

CVAP focuses on research related to robotics, computer vision, and machine learning. Much of the research is conducted within EU projects, as well as within the inter-departmental Centre for Autonomous Systems (CAS). The department has also strong financial support e.g., from the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, the Swedish Research Council, and Knut and Alice Wallenbergs Foundation. Job description

We invite applications to two PhD student positions in Machine Learning and Robotics, specifically automatic recognition and communication of non-verbal signals. The successful applicants will join a new project at CVAP with the goal of developing a robot system that can detect early signs of Alzheimers. The PhD students will develop methods for recognition and production of non-verbal signals (arm motions, facial expressions, gaze patterns, etc). The students will work together, but with two distinct projects that connect to each other in different ways. The project will incorporate collaboration with researchers at CSC/TMH and the Karolinska Institute. This is a four-year time-limited position that can be extended up to a year with the inclusion of a maximum of 20% departmental duties, usually teaching. In order to be employed, you must apply and be accepted as a doctoral student at KTH. The starting date is open for discussion, though ideally we would like the successful candidate to start as soon as possible.

Qualifications

Master degree with specialization in Robotics, Computer Vision, or Machine Learning. Applicants must be strongly motivated for doctoral studies, possess the ability to work independently and perform critical analysis and also possess good levels of cooperative and communicative abilities. Applicants must also possess good oral and written English skills.
