Data Engineer

Lifesum is a Stockholm-based tech startup with a vision to make it simple for people everywhere to lead healthy lifestyles. Our app combines technology and applied psychology with personal preferences to help people form habits that build towards healthier, happier lives.

We're now looking for an experienced engineer with a strong interest in data analysis and infrastructure. As part of a small analytics team, you will help us to develop and maintain a strong technical base for answering questions with our data, from capturing events to building the data pipelines needed to analyse them. As our base matures, you will help our cross-functional product teams to ask the right questions, and to form and test hypotheses about our users. You are comfortable working rapidly with small datasets, but have the engineering skills to capture and refine large datasets.

Tech-wise, we have a mobile-first product spanning iOS and Android, with server code written in Python. You will be exposed to cloud hosting (Amazon), SQL and no-SQL databases (MySQL, Redis, MongoDB), search solutions (Sphinx, ElasticSearch), data warehousing and BI (Omniata, Redshift), and microservices. Depending on your expertise, need and interest, there may be scope to grow this stack.

Responsibilities

Take initiative in growing our understanding of the data we have as well as using it for new features as well as business insights
Taking features from the idea stage to scalable production deployments
Take part in improving the platform as a whole as the company grows
Enable others to be more productive when working with data

Requirements

You are a doer and love to see what you built in production
Passion and curiosity. You love distributed systems and solving our users' problems in a smart and scalable way
A strong interest in data analysis and the infrastructure for it
5+ years software development experience
Masters or PhD in a scientific discipline a plus
You have worked in a team of developers and know the benefits of tests, continuous integration, logging and monitoring
You have experience working in Python or a similar language
You have previously built and maintained data pipelines
You are a team worker with excellent communication skills
Fluent (written and verbal) in English
It's a plus if you have a passion for health and fitness
As a person you continuously challenge yourself to find new ways of developing our platform. You have a burning desire to improve and you are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and get the work done.
