Sony Mobile - Data Scientist

Sony Mobile is a company in the smartphone, wearable device and IoT product business segments and one of several companies in the Sony Group. As you probably know the Sony Group have companies ranging over many different segments as TVs, PlayStation, movie and music business with which we have interaction and collaborations.

As a tech company our environment is fast changing requiring us to always be working in the frontier of the tech evolution which also applies when it comes to working with data and analytics. Analytics and data driven work models with close end user interaction and collaboration is one of the major new focuses that we invest in.

Your new team

The team you´d be joining as a Data Scientist is an eight person team that was created one year ago. We focus on data and analytics both when it comes to doing actual analysis, models and data mining but also at driving a data driven way of working in how we develop SW. Therefore we work closely with our SW development teams. Our team is located in Lund in the south of Sweden but Sony Mobile have offices all over the world that we work and interact with.

What will you be doing?
Be part of driving and shaping the evolution of Sony into a data driven future.
Be instrumental in exploring new potential cases and benefits of data analysis techniques.
Be part of an end user focused analytics team with an open and learning approach.
Work closely with different SW teams to create and evolve products and experiences.
Use quantitative analysis, machine learning, and data mining to a variety of areas.
Create and explore new data sources into new insights and reused models.
Present and communicate your insights and learnings.
Pilot and test new analytical tools, methods and script languages.
Evolve and grow yourself by experimenting and learning.

Who are we looking for?
• As a base you´ll need to have a good understanding of statistics (Hypothesis testing, confidence intervals etc.) and practical experience of application of statistics.
• A constant learner who is eager to explore and learn new ways of working, tools and insights.
• A person with passion for untangling the connections and dependencies between the data and the reality.
• Ability to start on a loosely defined problem and to dig deep into new domains to understand the context and business of the analysis.
• A communicative person that have the talent for explaining complex subjects in simple terms.
• Someone who´d define fun as going to work to find insights and answers for previous unchartered problems.

We expect you to have the experience and technical competence covering:
• At least 3+years in a data scientist or data analyst role and a degree in science, computer science, statistics, mathematics, or similar discipline.
• Coding skills (as R, Python, Java, or Scala)
• Analytics tools (as Spark, Impala/Presto, SQL, AWS and/or Hadoop)
• Statistics (as Hypothesis testing, confidence intervals etc.)
• Performing analysis with large datasets
