The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering promotes research and education for sustainable development, for improved health and quality of life. Our research ranges from natural science and bioscience, applied chemistry and biotechnology to chemical engineering. Our educational programs are characterized by technological solutions for improving people’s everyday life, and are continuously developed for meeting and promoting societal and industrial development.
 
We have approximately 400 employees, divided into five research divisions and one administrative unit. We are situated at campus Johanneberg.

Information about the divison
This position will assist a systems biology and bioinformatics team in developing infrastructure for modeling and simulation of biological systems. We aim to implement a web interface to an array of tools for analysis and integration of genomic and systems biology data, develop a scalable data management system and a set of novel data visualization solutions. This infrastructure platform will be a part of a general bioinformatics and systems biology infrastructure in Sweden. It will be hosted at Chalmers University of Technology, by the Systems and Synthetic Biology group, which is a part of the Life Science Area of Advance (http://www.chalmers.se/en/areas-of-advance/lifescience). We are a strong international team of molecular, computational and systems biologists and bioinformaticians focused on research of metabolism of simple and complex systems. Job description
The successful candidate will assist in engineering a highly available, future-forward and scalable data management system; develop new and automate existing software pipelines for genomic data analysis; develop new methods of visualization of genomic and systems biology data; help end users in data mining tasks; provide high quality documentation; collaborate with team members to identify and resolve data integration, distribution, and visualization issues; attend workshops and training courses.

Qualifications
• At minimum, completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or related experience and/or 1 year training;
• Work in Linux/Unix environment;
• Working knowledge of the LAMP technologies and experience in developing web applications;
• Familiarity with data exchange formats: JSON, XML, SBML;
• Scripting languages: Python / Perl;
• Working with relational and non-SQL databases (Mongodb);
• Experience in using MATLAB, R and Cytoscape is preferred, but not essential, as training can be provided;
• Working knowledge of molecular biology, although not specifically required, would be beneficial;
• Strong communication skills in English and Swedish;
