The Science Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a HPC System Administrator position at the Data Management and Software Centre in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Description of directorate/division/group
The Data Management and Software Centre (DMSC), part of the ESS Science Directorate, is responsible for the design, development and construction of the computer software and hardware to be used for the performance, and data analysis, of the experiments to be carried out on the neutron scattering and imaging instruments to be constructed at ESS. DMSC performs work at both the ESS offices in Lund, Sweden and at the main DMSC offices currently located at Universitetsparken 1 in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 2017 the main offices of DMSC will move to a purpose built building on the north campus of the University of Copenhagen.

Description of main responsibilities
The Data Systems and Technologies Group (DSTG) will design and operate the High Performance Computing (HPC) systems (data storage, network, cluster and workstations) that will be used to stream, store and process the experimental data taken on the instruments to be built at the ESS. These systems will be located in both at ESS in Lund and at the DMSC building in Copenhagen and will be available to the experimental users of ESS instruments.

The Data Systems and Technologies Group is also responsible for operating computer systems for scientific software development at DMSC which are used by DMSC groups, other groups within ESS, and collaborators and partners with ESS. Divisions at ESS with whom DMSC works very closely are the Integrated Control Systems Division and the Information Technology Division.

The HPC Systems Administrator will work as part of a team that currently administers the cluster, parallel file system, virtualization servers and software development servers used by DMSC and ESS staff for scientific calculations in preparation for ESS. These systems are Linux based. This group is also engaged in design work for the network connections, clusters and file systems that will be used for the analysis of data from the experiments to be carried out at the ESS.
