MAX IV is a national large-scale research laboratory providing scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world with instruments for research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.

The MAX IV Controls and IT team deliver solutions to the whole MAX IV organisation in the areas of control system hardware, controls software applications, infrastructure and networking, information management and scientific software. This is a dynamic and highly challenging environment and requires close collaboration with the staff in order to understand the needs and be effective in forming solutions. We are around 30 people in total who work in 5 domains in a well organised and agile way. We hold values of lean management, knowledge spread, user autonomy, continuous improvement and flexibility as guiding principles for our work.

The MAX IV facility is the largest and most ambitious Swedish investment in research infrastructure and designed to be one of the brightest source of X-rays worldwide.

The facility has welcome the first external researchers to the new experimental stations. In the mean while MAX IV will gradually reach the full performance of the accelerators and will increase the number of beamline in operation.

The Controls and IT team is a highly desirable team to work in. It is well organised and there is a real team spirit and culture of supporting each other to solve problems and share knowledge among the members which promotes learning and an innovative way of thinking. There is also a good trust with other groups at MAX IV which promotes a high level of professionalism and efficient way of tackling issues.

The control system software is a very important part of MAX IV and will continue to increase the functionalities and the reliability of the whole facility to reach the scientific expectations. In parallel, the team keep a close contact with the different systems obtain a sense of the User experience to better troubleshoot, estimate the planning and resources necessary in an agile way. In addition, we continuously improve our accountability and skills of software development and operation in a strong collaboration with the stakeholders.

You are the successful candidate who will be responsible for developing and delivering a wide range of software components to the whole facility, from hardware control , through data workflow to user interface.

Requirements
University degree
At least two years professional python and/or C++ programming experience.
Software development in a linux operating system environment.
Experience of systems software development on any kind of data acquisition system
An open source spirit and knowing what devops and agile mean 

Desirable
Experience of Tango/Sardana control system software development
Experience of software development for scientific application
Experience of web application development
Experience of system and network infrastructure
Experience of an agile team environment and familiar with the unit tests, continuous integration and delivery. 
Experience of an open source
Experience of working in an international research oriented environment.
In addition to the above it is regarded highly important to supply evidence that you are a team player and can demonstrate your communication and collaborative skills. We expect you to have the capacity to be able coordinate projects.
