Who we are

Watty’s goal is to eliminate energy waste in the world’s homes and buildings. Making our technology work is a tough challenge that we wrestle with everyday. But solving that problem has no value unless we are able to engage the user with our findings. Watty is growing and it is now time for us to add someone on the team who will focus exclusively on the user’s perspective.

What you will be doing

At Watty we are building a completely new type of product – so it is our job to define this new value proposition for our users. You will play an important part in the ideation phase, where the team (especially the CEO) will formulate hypotheses about what is most valueable for users. This leads to prototyping and then testing. Your main job is collecting data on what users think about the value propositions we come up with – and using this data to make sure that the company is making informed decisions about what to build.

Here is an example of what a discussion might look like with you on the team:

CEO: “I think we should build X because that is something I would like

CTO: “No, I think we should build Y instead – it’s a much better feature, I don’t like feature X

You: “The reason we have to build Z and not X or Y is that users actually are much more focused on User Problem A. Here are 10 videos with user testing showing what happens when you give them X or Y, compare that to these tests with users who were given Z“.

CEO/CTO “I think you just saved us 3 months of work

It will be your job to understand how users think about our problem better than anyone else in the world. This knowledge is not god-given and will come from extensive testing with users and your strong ability to put yourself in their shoes. This is a long-term project that we hope you are very excited about embarking on.

Once you have been able to validate key hypotheses you will interface with the engineering team and be responsible for describing to them what to build – in collaboration with the CEO and CTO.

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

Experience

You should have a track-record that clearly shows your passion for talking to users and coming up with new solutions to their problems. You have probably worked in startups before or in some other context where you get to imagine and build new services. A background in sustainability or energy is not required – work experience in the field of user testing and customer research is however.

Things we need to see from a candidate:

  • Customer Research skills – an ability for understanding users’ pain-points and formulating solution hypotheses
  • 1+ years of experience in conducting user interviews and user testing
  • Experienced in working with engineering teams who will build and implement features

Things that would be great to see in a candidate:

  • Visual design skills in photoshop and/or web design is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with analytics tools is a plus

Watty’s goal is to eliminate energy waste in the world’s homes and buildings. We do this by building technology that can automatically identify the smartest way to save money and energy in any home in a way that is low-cost, simple and very easy for the end-user to understand.

We are a Swedish startup with about 10 people working full-time out of an office on the KTH campus. We collectively speak Persian, Finnish, Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, Hindi, French and a number of Swedish dialects. Joining our team means being an integral part of our group and being involved in many parts of building our business.
