Our newly restructured Data Science Solutions team is key to unlocking the value in this data.

As a Data Science Director at AstraZeneca, you will collaborate across the whole medicines development business with clinicians, operations experts and other senior stakeholders. You will deal with a flexible and varied portfolio of challenges that could include - but are not limited to:

* Leading data science projects that transform how we do drug development,
* Developing and applying sophisticated machine learning methods to understand data from wearable devices,
* Researching and developing forecasting and optimization methods to guide decision-making about and resourcing of our drug projects,
* Working with architects and engineers to influence the design of our data science infrastructure.

You will be innovative, creative, entrepreneurial and you will share our passion for science. You should have the drive and determination to meet the unmet needs of patients around the world; our key mission is to get the right medicines to the right patients, faster. You will work in a team - part of our Advanced Analytics Centre - that has already demonstrated significant impact on AstraZeneca's key business and is now expanding to take on new challenges.

Minimum qualifications

* MS degree in a rigorous quantitative discipline (e.g., statistics, operations research, bioinformatics, economics, computational biology, computer science, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, industrial engineering).
* 5+ years of relevant industrial work experience in data analysis or related field. (e.g., as a statistician / data scientist / computational biologist / bioinformatician).
* Experience with statistical software (e.g., R, Julia, MATLAB, pandas) and database languages (e.g., SQL).
* Demonstrated experience working with business customers to help formulate business problems as a rigorous quantitative question, and translating analysis results to business recommendations.
* Keen interest in advanced machine learning techniques.

Preferred qualifications

* PhD degree in a rigorous quantitative discipline (as above)
* Applied experience using advanced machine learning techniques such as CNN, Gaussian processes, or gradient boosting in practical problem
* Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm to learn and apply new techniques.
