The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Software Developer position in the Integrated Control System Division.
Description of division
You will join the Integrated Control System division, which is designing, constructing, commissioning and operating the control systems for the ESS facility. The Control system can be described as the "Central nervous system" of the ESS facility that monitors and controls most of the operational aspects. We cover a wide range of sensing, control and automation technology from highly customized electronics specific for ESS applications to advanced software systems.
Description of main responsibilities
As a Software Developer you are expected to design, develop, test, document and maintain software within the Integrated Control System. ICS software includes both open source and in-house developed applications that need to be tailored to work together.
We expect you to be an active member of the development team, working with and taking own initiatives concerning continuous improvements of work methodologies and environment.
We believe that you are a curious and technically-minded well-organized person able to cope with a heavy workload, and we expect you to be proactive, take initiatives and co-operate.
Qualifications
Required qualifications:
* A Masters’ degree or equivalent experience in relevant field
* Two to five years' experience in Software development
* Experience with Java
* Team player with excellent communication skills
* Experience with distributed version control systems (Git)
* Experience from participating and contributing in a work environment using agile ways of working
* Experience working with continuous integration
* Experience with C and/or C++ would be an advantage
* Experience in control systems software, such as EPICS, would be an advantage
* Experience with Python programming would be an advantage
Experience of working in an international environment is preferred and excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite. Having a pragmatic and flexible approach would be necessary to enjoy the work.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
