The mission of the Embedded Software Group within Electrical & Electronics Advanced Engineering at Vehicle Engineering is to develop pioneering software technologies to enable software-driven transport solutions, and fulfil Volvo Group’s vision. Our main responsibilities are developing, securing, integrating and transferring technologies to provide a common software infrastructure that establishes the foundation to support a wide range of applications and features, including but not limited to autonomous vehicles. We develop efficient, robust and reliable software that leverages on heterogeneities and advancements in contemporary technologies, for example, hardware platforms, communication technologies and operating system technologies. Furthermore, we address engineering methods relevant for electronic and embedded systems, from end-user needs and requirements to integration and verification of the final system.

About the position

This position provides you with opportunities to drive and contribute to the development of next-generation software and electronics architecture with focus on in-vehicle infrastructure software. You will lead the work to secure technology development, integration and verification.

Your responsibilities include identifying technology trends; identifying key technical issues; proposing cutting edge solutions for implementation; taking lead for technology development assignments; and securing seamless transfer of new technologies to products. The scope includes practical hands-on work on platform services like operating system (e.g. AUTOSAR, Linux), Virtualization techniques (e.g. hypervisor, containers) and to work on design principles/patterns of Service-oriented architecture. As a result, this position offers variation in challenges and assignments. You will have opportunity to be involved in a variety of activities ranging from concept innovations to prototype demonstration in a laboratory and/or targeted environment.

Required qualifications

MSc Degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering/Software Engineering or similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience
Experience of working with embedded systems and good knowledge of systems/software engineering/architecture
Very good knowledge of system/software analysis methodologies
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Beneficial qualifications

It is meritorious to have one or more of the following:
Strong programming skills in one or more high-level/object-oriented programming languages (for example, C and/or C++) on Windows and/or Linux environment
Knowledge of automotive industry specific technologies and methodologies such as AUTOSAR, functional safety and relevant standards (for example, ISO 26262)
Knowledge of machine learning and advanced data analytics
Experience of leading technical team within our technology areas
Experience in agile development
