Who We Are

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our engineering team building the next leading mobile banking app in the Nordics from the ground up.

We have a team of engineers, product managers, and product designers working on building our product. We are an agile team that ships frequently, commonly releasing to production 15+ times per day, and releasing new versions of our mobile apps as often as once per week. We’re continually shipping new features and refining our designs to give our customers the best possible experience.

Who You Are

You love to get things done through collaboration with other engineers on the team. You have worked building backend services previously, and you may have even been a scrum master or agile coach in a past job. You love pair programming and other interactive methods for collaboration.

What You Will Do

• Create new services--inspired by microservice design patterns--in Go and host them on Heroku and AWS.
• Build services to handle customer data, connect to payments systems, process financial transactions in real time, and talk to iOS and Android apps.
• Mentor other developers through hands-on collaboration.
• Quickly iterate APIs with our mobile developers to provide the data and services our iOS and Android apps need to solve our customers’ problems.

One Day as an Engineer at Betalo

• If it's Monday, you'll start the week with a company-provided breakfast, and get a short presentation on the latest customer research we’ve done or another topic of company-wide interest.
• At around 9:30, you'll join the rest of the backend team at the daily standup where we walk the kanban board's stories.
• As you start the day's work, you might pair up with another developer to break down a story into subtasks or to pair program on the solution.
• If you have a question about the story, you'll grab the product owner or another developer and figure out what to do.
• After you get back from lunch, we have "no meeting afternoons", so you can get in the zone and focus on the story you are currently working on.
• Around 15:00, you might join some colleagues for a "fika", a short coffee break with a baked good like a cinnamon bun.
• We truly believe in work/life balance, so sometime around 17:30, you say goodbye to your colleagues and head home or off to the gym to make use of your gym membership subsidized by the company.

Must Haves

• At least three years of professional software engineering experience.
• You are an EU citizen or otherwise already have the right to work in Sweden.

Bonus Points!

• You have used AWS, Heroku, or other cloud-based host at previous jobs.
• You have developed microservices.
• You really love finance.
• You have been a scrum master or agile coach.
