Videoplaza’s video ad serving platform, Karbon, monetises video experiences across PCs, mobile devices, tablets, game consoles, IPTV, Smart TV and HBBTV. We help publishers and broadcasters manage, sell, optimise yield and deliver video advertising across all these environments. We are growing rapidly and have clients in more than 25 markets worldwide as well as offices across Europe, Asia and the US. Our Stockholm office is the hub for all R&D and has an international feel with colleagues from 16+ countries.

We are now looking for an experienced Systems Infrastructure Automation Engineer to join our team.

Systems Infrastructure at Videoplaza and the role

Our service infrastructure makes thousands of ad decisions per second at peak traffic resulting in tens of thousands of requests per seconds to our servers, terabytes of log data each month and a bandwidth utilisation of many gigabits per second through our CDN.

The Systems Infrastructure team at Videoplaza is responsible for researching, designing, building and maintaining the company’s entire hardware and network infrastructure. We’re tasked with scaling our core data centre in Stockholm and PoPs in Amsterdam and Singapore while extending our international presence by going from cloud-based nodes to more cost effective physical data centres in strategic locations around the globe.

As a System Infrastructure Automation Engineer at Videoplaza, you will be part of a small team working with everything from new hardware purchases and racking/cabling servers and switches to building and configuring monitoring and configuration management tools; all while maintaining and scaling the existing infrastructure and planning for PoPs in new geographies. You will be expected to work with all of the above, but your focus area will be on automation and tooling.

You will be tasked with answering questions like: How do we set up and configure new nodes with maximum efficiency and minimum risk? What are the best frameworks and tools to use for our specific use cases? How can we ensure we use best practices when developing our own tooling? How can we minimise the human factor and risk for errors when configuring the routing and switching in our production environment?

Our tech stack

We use Linux (currently Ubuntu Server) on our servers from mostly SuperMicro and have a classic 3-tiered network design with edge, core and access routers and switches from Juniper and Cisco. We monitor the infrastructure and systems with Nagios, Munin, Observium and an in-house tool based on Graphite. We currently automate and build tools with a combination of Ansible, Salt-Stack, Fabric, Flask and in-house python and shell scripts.

Our software stack includes Tomcat (Java), HAProxy, Nginx, Varnish, Quagga, BIRD, Bind, OpenLDAP, GlusterFS, Cassandra, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Salt-stack, Nagios, Munin, Observium, KVM, OpenVSwitch, libvirt and many more.

Who we're looking for

If you’re the right person for this role, your are a developer at heart with a passion for automation, monitoring and system/network administration. You have most likely worked in a devops role or similar automation-related capacity before. Reading about our tech stack will have you intrigued. You will be familiar with many of the technologies mentioned and interested in learning the ones that are new to you. Also, you are experienced enough to have your own opinions about our setup and you probably already feel the urge to question some of our choices and teach us a thing or two about other.
