About the job
This project is carried out at ÅF with a supervisor from ÅF and in collaboration with KTH Formula Student. The project aims to support two types of cars, ÅF has a small 1:12 scaled autonomous car with Lidar, stereo camera, accelerometers, gyro and other sensors for rapid prototyping of functionality and KTH formula student are designing an autonomous, self-driving electric formula car with similar sensors to participate in the largest engineering student competition in the world, Formula Student. http://www.kthformulastudent.se/
Description
No single SLAM algorithm is likely to be superior in both creating a map and maintaining and updating the map. This master thesis will focus on update or redesigning the current algorithms for the 1:12 sized car. The overall goal is to have improved algorithms for creating a map and refining the map when driving in the same area again. The algorithms shall also generate car position in the map and also define what is the road, typically by defining the road center and road width/angle. The algorithms need to use several sensors on the car to improve accuracy and be designed so that they can be implemented on the KTH Formula Student car as well.

Who are you?
The thesis is at master's level, scheduled to be started by Q1-2019, suitable for two persons and will be performed mainly at ÅF's office in Solna. We do also accept single candidates and can provide candidate matching.
This degree project will require good software knowledge and skills in programming. We believe you have knowledge in:

C++ and/or Python
Algorithm development
ROS
Linux

A requirement is that you have good knowledge in English, both oral and written. Knowledge in Swedish is meritorious.
