The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's leading research facility for scientific research using neutrons. Every year we host over 2000 visits by scientists, who come to carry out world-class research. Are you interested in joining our international institute?
We are currently recruiting one or more:

Scientific Software Programmers (M/F)

Duties:
The mission of the Scientific Computing (SC) Group is to deliver and support the critical data treatment software that enables visiting scientists to exploit their scattering data effectively during experiments. This covers everything from ab initio simulations to data reduction and data analysis. Working with 8 other team members, your duties will include:
- Implementing data reduction workflows in the Mantid code
- Participating in the development of, and providing user support for, the most widely used data analysis
software (e.g. SasView, BornAgain, QENS, FullProf, .)
- Supporting existing simulation codes (both classical molecular dynamics and DFT) with a view to
optimising the experimental strategy through a virtual experiment
- Validating results against existing software and developing 'user friendly'graphical interfaces
- Coordinating your actions with scientists and software developers to ensure that the software is delivered in
a timely and effective manner.

Qualifications and experience:
- Master's degree in software engineering or in physical science
- A strong track record in software development and strong motivation to work in a leading scientific facility
- Expertise in Python and C++ programming and knowledge of modern software development methods and
environments (e.g. Eclipse, GitHub, ...)
- Experience with new methods of data analysis, such as deep learning and AI, would be a bonus
- You must have a service-oriented attitude, with a committed approach to your work and strong team player
skills to be able to work efficiently with the other members of the SC group, as well as with scientists and
European partners.

Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.

Notes:
Permanent contracts.
Medical fitness for work under ionising radiation is required.
Further information can be obtained by contacting the head of the Scientific Computing Group: Dr. Paolo Mutti, email: [email protected] (please do not send your application to this address).

Benefits:
Generous company benefits (expatriation allowance), relocation assistance and language courses may be offered (for more information, please consult our employment conditions).

We are committed to equal opportunity and diversity; we therefore encourage anyone with relevant qualifications to apply.
